    Vacancy description

    Duties & responsibilities of post holder

    • Have an understanding of child development & ensure that the children’s physical, emotional, social & intellectual needs are met
    • Work in conjunction with Nursery Officers to provide activities which are age & stage-appropriate
    • Assist Nursery Officers in planning, assessing & recording children’s development using relevant guidelines & frameworks
    • Take responsibility for the children placed in your care
    • Be aware of all aspects of safety & security within the nursery
    • Share in the supporting & liaising with parents/carers
    • Provide a role model for children attending the nursery
    • Be aware of the additional needs of some children – work alongside Nursery Officers to ensure full integration within the nursery
    • Support & liaise with all staff members – engage in good team practices
    • Undertake certain domestic jobs, e.g. preparation of tea, sterilising toys/equipment, hoovering etc.
    • Work alongside Nursery Officers to ensure that appropriate paperwork/records are completed/maintained, e.g. planning, observations, development files, care sheets, nappy changing, signing in & out, invoice checklists, health & safety checks, accident, incident, observation & medication record sheets etc.
    • Be a ‘keyworker’ for a group of children in your base room
    • Be flexible to the needs of the nursery
    • Contribute to ensuring that the person picking up a child from the nursery is authorised to do so
    • Undertake further training where appropriate
    • Take part in staff appraisals
    • Contribute to ensuring the provision of a high-quality environment to meet the needs of individual children from differing cultures & religious backgrounds, & stages of development
    • Be aware of the high profile of the nursery & to uphold its standards at all times
    • Uphold all nursery policies & procedures
    • Discourage any negative behaviour that may be displayed, either verbal or physical. Report to the management team any instances of unfair behaviour/bullying that is observed between children &/or staff
    • Uphold the confidentiality policy of the company. Information may be made available that is not offered to other members of staff/parents. Any information divulged to these parties, or other inappropriate parties, would be a breach of the position & would instantly incur the company’s disciplinary procedure
    • Attend out of working hours activities, e.g. staff meetings, as outlined in your employment contract

    Desired qualifications:

    GCSEs at grades A*-C/9-4 (or equivalent).

    If you would like to apply for the level 3 then you require either the Level 2 qualification or equivalent experience.

    The employer is looking for someone to continue to progress into a level 3 and/or continue in employment at the end of the apprenticeship.
