    Vacancy description

    As a Post Office counter assistant your day-to-day duties would include:

    • Selling stamps and dealing with letters and parcels
    • Paying out pensions and benefits
    • Accepting bill payments
    • Selling travel insurance and foreign currency
    • Making sure the books balance at the end of the day

    In our main post office, you will be involved in selling and advising customers on a wider range of products as well.

    • Ideally you will have previous experience in a similar environment or the confidence to be part of a busy team
    • You should have confident communication skills as will be dealing with a variety of people

    Personal qualities

    To be a Post Office counter assistant you should have:

    • The ability to promote and sell products to customers
    • The ability to handle cash and information responsibly
    • Good numerical skills and accuracy
    • The ability to work quickly and accurately in a very busy environment
    • A good memory for forms and services
    • A patient and helpful manner
    • Good communication skills for understanding customer needs and explaining services

    Desired qualifications

    GCSEs at grades C/4 or above (or equivalent) in maths and English.
