    Our dedicated team are here to treat those minor ailments that occur as well as providing specialist management of long-term conditions and clinics covering a wide range of healthcare issues. The technology also means you can now do a lot of things from the comfort of your home such as order a repeat prescription or cancel an appointment.

    Vacancy description

    Duties include:

    • Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice
    • Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-up appointments
    • Using your own judgment and communication skills ensure that patients with no prior appointment but who need urgent consultation are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner
    • Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover and ensure procedures are completed
    • Receive and make telephone calls as required. Divert calls and take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt appropriate delivery
    • Enter requests for home visits on the computer, ensuring careful recording of all relevant details and where necessary refer to on call doctor
    • Action repeat prescription requests and ensure that they are ready for collection by the patient within 48 hours
    • Registering patients on the on-line system and dealing with on-line prescriptions
    • Dealing with the day-to-day running of the computer system and entering patient information on to the computer as required

    Patient notes and correspondence:

    • Opening mail and ensuring that all correspondence is scanned and attached to patient’s computer records
    • Taking “over the counter” monies from patients and issuing receipts
    • Making sure the reception area is left tidy and ready for use by incoming colleagues, together with information about any unsolved or urgent matters
    • Open up premises at the start of the day when first to arrive, de-activate alarm and make all necessary preparations to receive patients
    • When last to leave at the end of the day, ensure that the building is totally secured, internal lights are off and the alarm activated
    • Registering new patients promptly and accurately and tidying notes where required
    • Additional cover for holidays and sickness at all sites if needed
    • Undertake any other additional duties appropriate to the post as requested by the practice director
