    Our dedicated team are here to treat those minor ailments that occur, as well as providing specialist management of long-term conditions and clinics covering a wide range of healthcare issues. The technology also means you can now do a lot of things from the comfort of your home, such as order a repeat prescription or cancel an appointment.

    Vacancy description

    Duties may include:

    • Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice
    • Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-up appointments
    • Using your own judgment and communication skills ensure that patients with no prior appointment, but who need urgent consultation, are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner
    • Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover, and ensure procedures are completed
    • Receive and make telephone calls as required. Divert calls and take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt appropriate delivery
    • Enter requests for home visits on the computer, ensuring careful recording of all relevant details and where necessary refer to the on call doctor
    • Action repeat prescription requests and ensure that they are ready for collection by the patient within 48 hours
    • Registering patients on the on-line system and dealing with on-line prescriptions
    • Dealing with the day to day running of the computer system and entering patient information onto the computer as required

    Patient notes and correspondence:

    • Opening mail and ensuring that all correspondence is scanned and attached to patient’s computer records
    • Taking “over the counter” monies from patients and issuing receipts
    • Making sure the reception area is left tidy and ready for use by incoming colleagues, together with information about any unsolved or urgent matters


    • Open up the premises at the start of the day when first to arrive, de-activate the alarm and make all necessary preparations to receive patients
    • When last to leave at the end of the day, ensure that the building is totally secured, internal lights are off and the alarm activated
    • Registering new patients promptly and accurately and tidying notes where required
    • Additional cover for holidays and sickness at all sites if needed
    • Undertake any other additional duties appropriate to the post as requested by the Practice Director

    • Good computer skills
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including a good/confident telephone manner
    • To be well organised with the ability to prioritise tasks
    • To be punctual with great time management
    • To have a good level of initiative and a willingness to learn new skills
    • An ability to work well under pressure
    • To present and maintain a high level of customer service at all times
    • A full UK Driving Licence, preferred but not essential

    Have GCSE’s or equivalent at grade 9-4/A*-C in English and maths.
