Eden Training Solutions are members of a national consortium able to offer SFA funding for NVQ Training and Apprenticeships.

What are NVQ’S?

National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) are 'competence-based' courses, which means that learners are taken through practical, work-related tasks designed to help them develop the skills and knowledge to do a job effectively.

NVQs are based on national standards for various occupations. They cover all the main aspects of an occupation, including current best practice, the ability to adapt to future requirements and the knowledge and understanding that underpins competent performance.

NVQs are nationally recognised qualifications which acknowledge candidates' existing skills and experience in their field of work. They can be taken at levels 1 to 5 on the National Qualifications Framework. The framework shows how different types of qualifications compare in terms of the demands they place on learners.

How are NVQs achieved?

When learners consistently meet the standards described in the elements and show that they have the required skills and knowledge, they can claim that they are competent. They can claim certification for single units or for the whole qualification. Their claim to competence is registered through their awarding body.

Learners need to produce evidence in order to achieve their qualification. This may include:

  • Accreditation of prior experience and learning;
  • Observations and case studies;
  • Witness statements;
  • Work products;
  • Questions and answers;
  • Professional discussions;
  • Photographs

In order to achieve their qualification the learner's evidence must be valid, authentic, consistent, current and sufficient.
